Meet the Owners

Carie

Carie grew up in rural Manitoba with a love and respect for all animals, and for nature in general. In her family home there was always room for one more stray. In 1984 Carie graduated as a Medical Lab Technologist and, with her two small children Holly and Derek, moved to Northern Alberta for employment. She eventually settled in Red Deer, where she remained until her children were grown. She then moved to the Middle East where she worked and traveled for several years. While there Carie visited more than thirty countries, usually back-packing off the beaten track and often traveling solo. She also took up Scuba diving and learned to appreciate the beauty of the marine world.

The desire to be near her children and grand-children brought Carie back to Canada in 2004. Soon after returning, the opportunity to go into an animal-related business with her daughter Holly arose and she moved one more time. She now resides in Calgary with her two Aussies, Marlin who is hearing-impaired, and Moxie who helps take care of Marlin. The newest addition to her family is a Tennessee Walking Horse named Ruby.

Holly

Holly Montgomery is the co-owner of Tail Blazers Copperfield, alongside her mother, Carie. They are the original owners and have proudly owned this location for 20 years! 

Holly’s journey in the pet industry spans over two decades. She began by managing the Inglewood store before purchasing her own franchise, bringing a wealth of hands-on experience to help pet parents find the very best for their furry family members.

With a degree in Entrepreneurship and a major in Computer Information Systems, Holly has always blended business savvy with tech smarts. She was also an award-winning professional pet photographer at BrindleBerry Acres, capturing treasured images of pets until retiring in 2020 amid the pandemic. 

Holly and her husband Ron also previously owned the Tail Blazers Legacy location, which they sold in the fall of 2025 to focus on Copperfield and her health.

Today, her key roles at the store include: marketing, social media, product research, blogging, and website maintenance—ensuring the store stays connected and offers the latest in pet nutrition and care. 

Holly is passionate about ongoing education in pet food and is excited to start a course on making pet food from scratch in April 2026. 

Outside the store, she hosts “The Everything Pup Podcast,” where she dives into all things dog-related.

On a personal note, Holly is a newbie, homesteading enthusiast learning to garden, raise chickens and preserve food. 

At home, she is a dog mom to two amazing dogs: Pebbles, her energetic, 10 year old Boxer, and Kingsley, her loyal, 11 year old Malamute mix.
