Malting is the sprouted and steamed whole grain from which the radicle (the part of a plant embryo that develops into a root.) has been removed (AAFCO, 2003). Barley malt is highly processed and has lost the majority of its nutrients and contains a high amount of sugar. It is a by-product of the brewery business and not the best choice for pet food.
